Wordtracker Review
Wordtracker helps you identify keywords and keyword phrases that people search on yet aren't so
competitive you can't rank well.
Keyword research for me, has been quite possibly the most important thing I do for my business, so I put a lot
of time and effort into the process, but it has paid off immensely as my sites come up on the first page of Google
for all my best keyword phrases.
Having said that, Wordtracker has been my tool of choice.
I was introduced to Wordtracker several years ago from some consulting I
received from the Internet Marketing Center and I have to say, after using it for a few
months I became hooked.
I use Wordtracker every day. I use when I create new web pages, making blog entries,
writing articles, writing sales pages, whatever it is Wordtracker shows me exactly the keywords that I can use to
help my pages rank well in the search engines. Without it I'm just taking a shot in the dark.
If you understand how the search engines are using keywords and how sites compete using niche keywords,
then you'll understand how valuable Wordtracker is.
My goal with everything I write is to use the keywords people search on but that aren't too competitive.
That of course isn't the whole story when it comes to ranking well. Thorough keyword competition analysis also includes use your keywords on
your pages correctly and getting keyword rich links into your site. But it all has to start with the right
keywords and that's where Wordtracker
shines.
Review of How To use Wordtracker
The trick to Keyword Research is to try to find keyword phrases that have high enough search volume but have low
competition. Doing this will help you rank on page 1 of the search engines because the competition for that keyword
phrase isn't as fierce.
To follow along sign up for Wordtracker's free trial and I'll show you how easy it is to
use and get the keywords you can target:
Check the Wordtracker button and enter your keyword phrase to the left. You can enter multiple
keywords but o ensure we don’t miss any profitable phrases, we are going to enter a fairly generic phrase
'adult acne'. This will show you all searches that contain 'adult acne'.

Also not show here is the keyword KEI (keyword effectiveness Index) that is also displayed in your keyword
search results.
As you can see from above, two of the best long tail keyword phrases. These are the keywords with large numbers
of searches yet have low page competition. These search numbers you see are the number of searches per day, so
multiply the number of searches by 30 to get a monthly count.
If you're wondering how the level of competition determined, WordTracker evaluates whether a page has
the keyword phrase in the TITLE of the page itself and in the ANCHOR TEXT of at least one incoming link.
In other words, a page is more competitive if it has 'adult acne' in the title of the page AND sites are linking
to it using that keyword phrase in their link.
Anchor text is sometimes hard to control especially with unsolicited links but if the phrase is in the title of
the page they are linking to, they’re more likely to use that. If someone links to your page using 'Click Here' or
something other than your keyword phrase, it’s ok to politely ask them to use your keyword phrase instead. Explain
why and they will probably appreciate the lesson. It’s very important!
Tip: You should still use keyword phrases that have high competition on your site if
appropriate even if you probably won’t rank well for it today. Over time, you will acquire lots of incoming links
and you may be able to climb up in the rankings as other websites drop out, which happens every day ;-)
Who Should Use Wordtracker
Wordtracker is designed for people who need:
- Consistent access to good, niche keywords. For example I use it every day to help me
create web pages, articles and blog posts that will perform well in the search engines for my chosen keywords.
If you just need a keyword tool for a few days at a time you're better off using something else or simply
purchasing Wordtracker for a few days or a week at a time.
- High level details on a niche topic. One great feature of Wordtracker is the keyword
Universe tool. For instance, if you're a blogger you can use their keyword Universe to look up related topics and
niches for new post ideas, that's something I personally use a lot.
